How you can start a career as a Personal Trainer
To become a Personal Trainer, you need the knowledge and skills to be able to change a client’s mindset, train them with the right techniques and change their lives for the better.
If you’re passionate about fitness and ready to make a difference, prepare yourself for a future in fitness.
Find out how to become a Personal Trainer in three easy steps.
1. Choose your qualification
To work as a Personal Trainer in Australia, you need to ensure you’re equipped with a nationally recognised certification.
A SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness is the minimum certification required for you to work and train others as a registered Personal Trainer, in accordance with national guidelines. This certificate will teach you how to undertake client health and fitness assessments and specialised exercise programs, whilst extending your competencies in fitness planning, training legalities and motivational psychology.
To enrol in a Certificate IV in Fitness, you first need to have the foundation knowledge of fitness and training fundamentals, as outlined in the SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness.
The most popular qualification to become a qualified Personal Trainer, is to undertake one intensive course, the Complete Personal Trainer^. This nationally recognized course combines the core units of a Certificate III in Fitness before progressing into a Certificate IV in Fitness, providing you with everything you need to know to work effectively as a Personal Trainer, including how to operate and manage a small business.
2. Choose your study mode
When it comes to how you want to study, you need to be able to choose the option that best suits your schedule and preferred method of working.
Online study gives you the benefit of studying whenever and wherever you want to. This is a perfect choice for those who may be working, want the flexibility of studying at home or are limited by location, transport or other outside factors.
On the other hand, On-Campus study provides you with a face-to-face experience, where you can train with and learn from an experienced industry professional. For a hands-on industry, such as fitness, this is extremely important to ensure your training and techniques are current and correct.
Combining the best of both, the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers’ Complete Personal Trainer^ is delivered face-to-face at a Campus near you. Theory is delivered online, allowing you to study anywhere and anytime. Your practical sessions are undertaken alongside a group of fellow fitness enthusiasts, guided by an AIPT Mentor who will teach you the hands-on aspects of personal training.
3. Enter the industry
Once qualified, you’re equipped with everything you need to jump into a career as a Personal Trainer.
For those who want to start building their client network right after graduation, consider the Graduate Placement Guarantee*.
