How to Get Your First Personal Training Client
If you are on social media, every man and his dog in the fitness industry have ways on how to get clients.
They show you their amazing lifestyle of sports cars and flash houses etc. But most of it is a con, and it’s a challenge to perform due diligence on these self –imposed success stories prior to investing money on their products. Most of the time the answers to your gaining client questions are in front of you.
To answer the question of 'how to obtain new clients' when starting your Personal Training Business, we must consider the particulars that are specific to you. For example, where are you going to train your clients? Are you located outdoors, indoors, in a gym, or home gym? This answer provides you with an array of methods to gain your first client and more. Secondly, what services are you providing? One on one, or group training, or both? Once you have answered these questions, you can then move forward to offering your services to potential clients.
So let's look at some ways to acquire your first client and to keep acquiring clients.
Family and friends
The first and most obvious place to start is with your family and friends. As you are new to the fitness industry, offering your family members and friends your services at a discounted rate is a great way to practice your newly invested skills and knowledge. It is also a great way to build your client portfolio and put together success stories that potential clients can see. More clients will come to you if you can prove that you can do your job well. Training your family and friends also allows you time to gain confidence in your abilities to train clients well. Your family and friends can be a less expensive way of obtaining feedback about the way you conduct your sessions, the results they experience from your guidance, and how a client feels duration a training session.
Share your story
Have you achieved a fitness goal? Did you lose weight? Did you compete at a high level in a specific sport? Sharing these experiences while building relationships with clients/members of the gym can be a way of obtaining your first or new clients. Walking the floor of the gym and talking to members and building relationships are great ways of sharing your story. This method can also encourage people to spread your story through word of mouth, talking to other members of the gym who may be interested in using your services.
Find the gaps
One of the challenges I see with students studying their personal training course who have a good level of exercise experience is that they forget other people are not as fit as they are. Many people do not have the same level of competency with exercise techniques and do not have the same level of knowledge. So offering sessions of how to conduct correct exercise techniques to members of the gym can be a great way of gaining your first or new clients.
Walk the streets
This suggestion might be more tailored for outdoor trainers, and personal trainers set up at home, or those who have their own studio. Nothing beats pressing the flesh so to speak and going from door to door with surrounding small and medium business offering your services. This is still a great method. Remember to meet the need of the business you approach. Offering just weight loss sessions may not cut it for the decision maker of the business. Speak their language, explain that your service will create healthier, more productive staff and a reduction in absenteeism.
Apart from my quick whip at the start of this article about sales programs to gain new clients, social media is a great way to spread your message and gain your first or new clients. While you are studying your personal training course share your experiences, share your training sessions and what you are learning, share photos and videos, share a solution to a problem you had around your health and fitness goals. With the ability to access this kind of content via hashtags and news feeds, the chances of people seeing your achievements may have them coming to you!
I hope these simple tips have provided you with some understanding of how to gain clients — all the best in your adventure of building new relationships and changing peoples lives for the better.
