With a SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness, you’ll have the chance to turn your passion into a career, choose your own hours and even be your own boss. The Australian Institute of Personal Trainers SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness offers you an interactive and hands on approach to learning, giving you the knowledge and skills you need to conduct fitness assessments and design and deliver fitness programs that help people achieve their fitness goals.

Choose from one of the two specialisations:

Group Exercise Instructor

Individuals who specialise in Group Exercise Instruction deliver exercise sessions designed for participation by a group of clients with a mix of ages/fitness levels. Sessions may be freestyle, pre-choreographed or circuit style. These individuals instruct and demonstrate complete exercise sessions to groups with limited individual interaction.

Gym Instructor

Individuals who specialise in Gym Instruction provide individually tailored client assessments, provide technique correction as needed, and develop and demonstrate programs. They also provide supervision of a facility or service, keep equipment clean, tidy and well maintained, and handle various customer inquiries.

And from the moment you graduate you will possess a comprehensive understanding of fitness and training fundamentals, including anatomy and physiology principles. You will also learn the latest in healthy eating trends and motivational strategies to assist new members in their fitness and health journey.

This course gives you the flexibility to complete the theory component in the comfort of your own home, while the practical component of your course will be taught by real fitness professionals, in real gyms, at a campus location near you.

Entry Requirements

Education

You will need to have completed year 10, or equivalent. Equivalency can be demonstrated by one of the following:

  • A qualification at Certificate II level or higher OR
  • 2 years of industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication.

Minimum Age

You will need to be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18 your enrolment form will need to be signed by a parent or guardian.

Residency Status

You will need to be a permanent Australian resident or equivalent.

Computer Requirements

In order to complete the online part of the course you will need regular access to the following:

  • Computer: Laptop or desktop computer with working speakers or headphone points
  • Internet: High-speed internet such as Broadband or ADSL, T1/T2, fibre optic or (Dial-up access will be significantly slower and is not recommended)
  • Windows: Operating system – Windows XP or Vista 7 or above
  • Internet Browser: Internet Explorer 7 or higher or the latest version of Google Chrome
  • MAC: Operating system: OS X 10.4 or later. Internet Browser – latest version of Google Chrome
  • Software: Flash, Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word (or Open Office which is free to download

Working with Children Check

In order to complete your practical component, you must hold a current “working with children check” (card) issued by the relevant government department in the state or territory in which you will undertake this course.

Course Outcomes

The SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness will enable you to undertake work in a range of fitness environments dependent on the specialisation chosen. It may allow you to gain employment in fitness areas as a:

Gym Instructor

Work as part of a team of fitness professionals in a gym providing advice on using gym equipment and writing exercise programs, while also contributing to daily operations.

Group Exercise Instructor

Deliver exercise sessions designed for participation by a group of clients with a mix of ages/fitness levels. Sessions may be freestyle, pre-choreographed or circuit style. These individuals instruct and demonstrate complete exercise sessions to groups with limited individual interaction.

Student Selected Mentor - Certificate III in Fitness

Choose your own mentor* to guide you through 30 hours of face-to-face practical. Theory components are completed online, in your own time.

*Your chosen Mentor must be approved by the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers.

AIPT Mentor - Certificate III in Fitness

30 hours of face-to-face practical completed with an AIPT Mentor, a qualified Personal Trainer, who will guide you through your course material and provide you with hands-on experience, with theory components completed online, in your own time.

Provide health screening and fitness orientation
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify client fitness requirements, administer a pre-exercise health screening questionnaire and advise clients of appropriate fitness programs, services and facilities.

SISFFIT002

Recognise and apply exercise considerations for specific populations
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to recognise exercise considerations common to specific population groups.

SISFFIT003

Instruct fitness programs
This unit describes the performance outcomes, knowledge and skills required to plan, instruct and evaluate a variety of fitness programs and circuit sessions aimed at the health-related components of fitness.

Provide healthy eating information
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to provide healthy eating information and support healthy attitudes to eating and body composition.

Instruct exercise to older clients
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan, instruct and evaluate exercise for male clients aged forty five and over, and female clients aged fifty five and over.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to address needs and expectations of clients and colleagues, promote programs, services and facilities, and respond to conflict and client complaints.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.

Work effectively in sport, fitness and recreation environments
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a sport, recreation or fitness environment.

BSBRSK401

Identify risk and apply risk management processes
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify risks and to apply established risk management processes to a defined area of operations that are within the responsibilities and obligations of the role.

*HLTAID003

Provide first aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. *This course contains a core unit, HLTAID003 Provide first aid, which must be completed through an external RTO. Australian Institute of Personal Trainers has an agreement in place with Red Cross Australia (RTOID 3605) which allows students to receive training for this unit at a reduced price. Red Cross Australia is a third party training provider who conduct training and assessment services on behalf of Australian Institute of Personal Trainers. Please note that the cost of this external training is not included in any of your course fees. Upon completion, you will need to submit a copy of your first aid certificate in order for us to process a Credit Transfer against this unit on your student record. If you have chosen your own third party provider, you must submit a certified copy of your certificate. If you have undertaken training with Red Cross Australia, you must forward Australian Institute of Personal Trainers the email you receive which contains the electronic copy of your certificate.

Participate in workplace health and safety
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for workers to participate in safe work practices to ensure both their own health and safety and that of others. The unit applies to all workers who require knowledge of workplace health and safety (WHS) to carry out their own work, either under direct supervision or with some individual responsibility.

SISFFIT007

Instruct group exercise sessions
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan, instruct, monitor and evaluate group exercise sessions, with or without music. It requires the ability to plan the selection, sequencing and progression of exercises and appropriate music to ensure safe participation in activities.

Instruct approved community fitness programs
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to instruct an approved community fitness program designed to promote wellbeing and increase physical activity levels in community groups.
