If you are passionate about helping people reach their health and fitness goals and want to choose your own hours or be your own boss, becoming a nationally qualified Personal Trainer is a great fit. Our Complete Personal Trainer^ program offers you an interactive hands-on approach to learning, giving you the knowledge and skills you need to assess clients and tailor exercise programs to reach their individual goals.

If you haven't yet completed a Certificate III in Fitness SIS30313, this course is the complete package, equipping you with the necessary knowledge and competencies required to work as a successful Personal Trainer. You will start with the core units of the Certificate III in Fitness before launching into the Certificate IV in Fitness SIS40210.

Learning from real fitness professionals, in real gyms, this course covers the fundamentals of fitness plus an understanding of the latest in healthy eating trends, motivational psychology and the essentials of small business planning.

^The Complete Personal Trainer consists of the SIS40210 Certificate IV in Fitness + units of competency required for entry. Please contact us for further details on the course structure.

The Australian Institute of Personal Trainers are currently transitioning to the new Certificate III in Fitness (SIS 30315) and Certificate IV in Fitness (SIS40215) which will be released in October 2016. Students who intend to graduate after 1 March 2017 will be automatically transitioned to the new qualification.

Course Outcomes

Once obtained, the Complete Personal Trainer will enable you to work as a fully qualified Personal Trainer. It will also allow you to gain employment in fitness areas such as:

Face-to-Face On-Campus - Complete PT

52 hours face-to-face practical delivered on-campus with theory components completed online, in your own time.

AIPT Mentor - Complete PT

20 hours of face-to-face practical completed with an AIPT Mentor, a qualified Personal Trainer, who will guide you through your course material and provide you with hands-on experience, with theory components completed online, in your own time.

Student Selected Mentor - Complete PT

Choose your own mentor* to guide you through 20 hours of face-to-face practical. Theory components are completed online, in your own time.

*Your chosen Mentor must be approved by the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers.

Apply anatomy and physiology principles in a fitness context
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply an understanding of human body structure and systems and terminology as they relate to exercise instruction. It applies to fitness professionals who may operate with some level of autonomy or under limited supervision and incorporates the self directed application of knowledge and skills.

Provide fitness orientation and health screening
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify clients' general fitness requirements though the use of a screening form and advise clients on appropriate fitness facilities and services.

SISFFIT307A

Undertake client health assessment
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to review client screening information, discuss fitness goals with the client, and conduct a basic fitness appraisal in preparation for a exercise program.

SISFFIT306A

Provide healthy eating information to clients in accordance with recommended guidelines
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake a risk-management process in relation to an activity and in accordance with an organisation's risk-management policies and procedures. In this context, the risk-analysis process is conducted using structured analysis methodology according to the current Australian and New Zealand standard.

Develop and apply an awareness of specific populations to exercise delivery
This unit covers the skills and knowledge to provide appropriate advice to specific population clients on participation in fitness appraisals and fitness activities. It covers the pathology of the more common disease states and conditions encountered within the fitness industry and the limiting effects of the condition on exercise performance and functional capacity.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan, demonstrate, supervise and monitor a range of gym programs customised for clients with specific fitness requirements and respond appropriately to the changing needs of clients.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop, instruct, supervise and evaluate fitness programs for a range of fitness clients, including older adults and older adolescents.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to implement, monitor and review strategies for the ongoing management of a small business's finances. It also includes day to day financial management of the small business.

*HLTAID003

Provide first aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. *Learners are required to obtain the unit of competency HLTAID003 through another provider, as part of this qualification. The Australian Institute of Personal Trainers has an agreement with St John Ambulance for our students to receive training in the First Aid unit. Please contact us for more details.
