Kirsti Jones-Healy Success Story
Kirsti Jones-Healy, AIPT Graduate
"If you love fitness, find out your why and what area of expertise you want to go into. I would recommend working in a gym, whether it's in sales, personal training, cleaning, promo work, just get involved. Every day we had the opportunity to change someone's life, make it count."
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Kirsti, and I am a 25-year-old, driven and outgoing fitness professional. I recently left my job as a gym manager to pursue my own business: "No Limit Fitness", where I help people push past perceived limits in fitness, nutrition and mindset. I have furthered my study with some of the best strength & conditioning coaches in the world, and I am an athlete for the Sports Model Project. I have moved to personalised online coaching at this moment in time, due to COVID, but that could change in the future. I have also been an ambassador for fitness for a few different fitness-based companies.
What made you decide to pursue a career in fitness?
Over the years of my own self-discovery, of trying to find the right information to achieve the goals I want - I found it challenging, hard and failed many times over the past ten years especially with so much false and misleading information out there, but I am now on the right path through the guidance of AIPT and other coaches I have continued my education through. I wanted to learn (and continue to educate myself) so that way I can help others achieve their goals without doing the run-around, and also be an approachable person to do so.
What course did you study? Which gym did you have your Face-to-Face practical assessments?
I completed the Complete Personal Training course (Certificate 3 & 4 in Fitness), and I had my practical assessments at Chermside Goodlife through AIPT. Liam was my mentor, great bloke - was very knowledgeable and easy to understand and a good mentor. Would highly recommend.
Why did you choose to study with AIPT?
I heard good things about AIPT, and the customer service was really good. Considering I enquired to a few to get a good feel about how the admin and course delivery was like, only AIPT came back with a high standard and continued throughout the course. Not pressuring when I said I wasn't ready yet, very helpful and kind. Throughout the whole course, any question I had, any submission help they were on it - via phone and email; always very prompt. Also, the fact I could do it the majority of it online and pay it off during the duration of my course, whilst working a full-time job made it super manageable. Could not fault AIPT and would recommend to anyone looking to study.
What are your plans for the future?
To continue my education and build my business. Ideally, in the next ten years, I want to be coaching some of the best athletes/aspiring athletes around. Unsure if I will go into sport-specific, but I have been exploring all avenues.
What would you say to people who are considering taking the leap into a career in fitness?
I would definitely say do it; it is super rewarding. I also say learn everything you can and don't be afraid to do things for free. You have to give a little to get a little, and trust me; it goes a long way. Also, be confident and back yourself. If you love fitness, find out your why and what area of expertise you want to go into. I would recommend working in a gym, whether it's in sales, personal training, cleaning, promo work, just get involved. Sales or management experience will be your best friend when it comes to people skills and confidence, plus you can help people from those positions too! What we learn throughout the AIPT course gets applied in everyday life, which is awesome. Every day we had the opportunity to change someone's life, make it count.
