Hi, I’m Cordelia, a Personal Trainer and Personal Training Manager at Goodlife Health Clubs Camberwell.
I have three years of industry experience and from the end of 2021 have become an AIPT Mentor as well. I grew up on a farm in Beverly, Western Australia with interests in arts and fashion. I was home-schooled until high school and following that went on to study Fashion at Curtin University, where I completed a Bachelor of Humanities and Fashion with Honours in 2014.
After graduating I worked as a designer for a local fashion label while also running my own label. During this time, I also taught Fashion Design at Curtin University and was an Events Coordinator with Curtin’s Young Alumni Advisory Board. In 2019 my partner and I packed up our life and moved to Nullabor, Melbourne for a lifestyle change. Eventually, we plan to return to Perth and reunite with its sunny lifestyle and the friends and family we left there.
Unlike many people, I did not grow up with a love of sport. I only got into it about six years ago when I was experiencing issues with my back from being hunched over a sewing machine. I started with yoga and Pilates and carried on running. I lifted weights at home for a while but outgrew what I could achieve there and joined a gym in 2017.
At that time, I was working in retail but found it difficult to be challenged or motivated there. I worked in an activewear store and loved talking to customers about their fitness journeys. While I was working out at Goodlife Health Clubs Camberwell and noticed the AIPT signage and realised where my thoughts were leading me. I made the call, and by the end of the week, I was enrolled in the face-to-face on-campus course.
To those who aren’t sure about taking the leap into a career in fitness, I would say do it. The people in this industry are so encouraging and supportive. The AIPT’s Certificate IV in Fitness is easy to navigate, and they keep the content interesting and engaging. I literally downloaded the learner guides and took my tablet to cute little cafes to study. It's as simple as that, make the call, have the conversation and get started.
I am so excited to continue in this industry, and I will definitely be studying further with AIPT. Next step: Nutrition!
My favourite part about my job is supporting and encouraging my clients, students and fellow PTs to achieve their goals. They’re capable of anything and being the voice that helps them believe that is tremendous.
AIPT helped me achieve my goals. They were supportive every step of the way. Because of them, I was able to change careers and take control of my lifestyle. Now, I want to pass that along.
