Hi, I'm Jason Raymond, Head of Operations at Savvy Fitness, Wollongong.
I have four years of experience in the fitness industry and have been an AIPT Mentor for the past two years. I grew up in the very region I now work within.
I played many sports when I was younger, including soccer, basketball, netball, and swimming; I was always super active. I knew I wanted to do something that involved exercise as I knew I couldn't sit at a desk all day! After jumping around between jobs after school, I finally decided to commit to Personal Training and have loved it ever since.
Being interested in sports certainly helped. Once I decided to turn my passions into a career, I found AIPT and studied to attain my qualifications.
I did my course in 2017 and then worked locally with an outdoor fitness company. I learned a lot in my first year, including dealing with crazy weather conditions! I did my mentor hours for my course with Savvy Fitness and saw a job advertisement for a Personal Trainer position, so I immediately applied. Since starting at Savvy, I've never looked back, and I have learnt so much in my time with this team, including how to become a campus facilitator for the Personal Training Course with AIPT.
I love seeing the achievements of my clients. They constantly break boundaries and reach goals. Being part of their journey to improve their health and fitness is amazing.
I also love managing and upskilling the staff I work with. Most of all, I love taking group classes at our outdoor location.
My advice is to keep learning after you qualify. For me, partnering with AIPT was a great way to do this, with the added benefit of aiding others along the way.
