AIPT’S Certificate IV in Fitness

 

Progress in your fitness career and equip yourself with the knowledge and skills you need to offer group fitness sessions and one-on-one training to individuals, including older clients.

If you’ve completed your Certificate III in Fitness and want to continue building your career in the health and fitness sphere, extend your qualifications by studying a Certificate IV in Fitness.

The Australian Institute of Personal Trainers’ Certificate IV in Fitness expands upon your foundation knowledge of fitness and training. You will refine your practices of client health and fitness assessment and specialised exercise programs, whilst extending your competencies in fitness planning, training legalities, motivational psychology and business planning. As the minimum requirement needed to become a registered Personal Trainer, this qualification is key for you to work as a hands-on fitness professional in gyms, health clubs, boot camps and a necessity to run your own personal training business.

Career Outcomes

Once obtained, the Certificate IV in Fitness will enable you to work as a fully qualified Personal Trainer.

  • Delivery Options

     

    OPTION 1: FACE-TO-FACE PRACTICAL WITH ONLINE THEORY

     

    Typically delivered on Friday nights and Saturdays*, this is the most intensive, practical course delivery option we have, designed to fast track you into employment sooner. You’ll get 26 hours of face-to-face practical experience, delivered in a real gym. The theory components can be completed online, in your own time.

    This program will give you maximum industry experience, with face-to-face assistance from professional fitness business owners.

    The Certificate IV in Fitness through delivery option one is made up of:

    THEORY: 15 online units of competency

    PRACTICAL: 26 hours of practical experience, delivered over 8 weeks

    OPTION 2: CHOOSE YOUR OWN MENTOR

     

    Our second delivery option means you can choose your own Mentor – an experienced Personal Trainer – to guide you through the practical components of your course. Your chosen Mentor must be approved by the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers, and assist you in applying the concepts you are learning to real world fitness situations.

    The Certificate IV in Fitness through delivery option two is made up of:

    THEORY: 15 online units of competency

    PRACTICAL: 15 hours of practical experience with a Mentor of your choice

     

    OPTION 3: WE PAIR YOU WITH A MENTOR

     

    Your third course delivery option is for us to pair you with one of our Mentors – a working Personal Trainer – in their gym or fitness studio. You will observe the practical training sessions of your Mentor, who will also assist you to apply the concepts you are learning to real world fitness situations.

    The Certificate IV in Fitness course through delivery option three is made up of:

    THEORY: 15 online units of competency

    PRACTICAL: 15 hours of practical experience with a Mentor we assign for you

  • Entry Requirements

     

    Entry to the Certificate IV in Fitness is open to those that hold a current first aid qualification, a current CPR certificate, and who have achieved the following 10 units of competency (as achieved in the Certificate III in Fitness SIS30313):

    SISFFIT302A – Provide quality service in the fitness industry

    SISFFIT303A – Develop and apply an awareness of specific populations to exercise delivery

    SISFFIT304A – Instruct and monitor fitness programs

    SISFFIT305A – Apply anatomy and physiology principles in a fitness context

    SISFFIT306A – Provide healthy eating information to clients in accordance with recommended guidelines

    SISFFIT307A – Undertake client health assessment

    SISFFIT308A – Plan and deliver gym programs

    SISXOHS101A – Follow occupational health and safety policies

    SISXRSK301A – Undertake risk analysis of activities

    This unit describes the performance outcomes, knowledge and skills required to utilise a broad knowledge of exercise science principles in fitness training.
  • SISFFIT415A - Work collaboratively with medical and allied health professionals
    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify situations and conditions requiring guidance from medical or allied health professionals, to interpret instructions from medical or allied health professionals and implement appropriate exercise plans.
  • SISFFIT417A - Undertake long term exercise programming
    This unit describes the performance outcomes, knowledge and skills required to design, plan and program long term exercise for fitness industry clients.
  • SISFFIT418A - Undertake appraisals of functional movement
    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake general postural appraisals to evaluate a client's posture, functional range of movement and muscle strength and weakness, in preparation for the development of an appropriate exercise program.
  • SISFFIT420A - Plan and deliver exercise programs to support desired body composition outcomes
    This unit describes the performance outcomes, knowledge and skills required to design exercise plans and programs to change body composition in clients. It requires the application of healthy eating standards and guidelines to provide accurate healthy eating information to clients and the ability to recognise and work within professional limitations.
  • SISFFIT416A - Apply motivational psychology to provide guidance on exercise behaviour and change to meet health and fitness goals
    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to analyse client behaviour and motivate clients to commence and adhere to a long term exercise plan.
  • SISFFIT314A - Plan and deliver exercise to older clients with managed conditions
    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan and deliver exercise for clients aged 50 and over. It involves planning, demonstration, instruction, review and modification of activities and instructional techniques to meet individual client needs.

    This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to be able to plan, deliver monitor and adjust personal training programs for a range of clients including older clients, in both indoor and outdoor settings.
