Dylan Garbutt Success Story

Student Success Story

Tell us a Bit About Yourself.

Hey, my name’s Dylan, and I’m 19 years old.

I moved to Australia with my family from South Africa when I was 7. I’ve always loved all things health and fitness, which grew through my many years of playing football in the NPL. I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Griffith UNI while also working as a personal and group trainer.

What Made you Decide to Pursue a Career in Fitness?

Through my footballing years, I really fell in love with health and fitness and saw what was possible when you put your mind to something. I also have a passion for helping and seeing people achieve their goals and grow to be the best person they can be through their individual fitness journeys. Those passions ultimately led me to pursue a career in fitness, especially after getting a taste of it during high school, where I completed my Certificate II in Sports and Recreation as well as my Certificate III in Fitness.

What Course did you Study?

I studied a Certificate IV in Fitness with AIPT as well as gained a strength and conditioning certificate alongside an introduction to nutrition certificate.

Why did you Choose to Study with AIPT?

Studying with AIPT allowed me to study while working 5 days a week and starting a university degree. They made this possible by allowing flexibility throughout my study while still ensuring I received the highest possible education throughout the course. The range of payment plans was also a significant factor for me. Studying with AIPT also enabled me to tailor my qualification by adding strength and conditioning and introduction to nutrition certifications, which has provided me with a more comprehensive and holistic approach to fitness, providing me with additional and varied career pathways.

What are Your Plans for the Future?

I hope to continue inspiring and helping others find their love for all things health and fitness while achieving their goals. I also plan to join the police force later in life. I believe the skills I learned while studying for my Certificate IV in Fitness, and the interactions and opportunities I experience every day while working in the fitness industry, will be of great benefit in the future.
