Hi, I'm Adam, the Personal Training Manager at Fitness First Melbourne Central with six years of experience.
In my spare time, I love watching various sports and also love music, especially seeing live events. During summer, I will be at the beach every chance I get and would love to pick up surfing again.
Throughout my Bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sport Science and placement with Sports and Conditioning coaches, my attitude towards my career post studies shifted from clinical practice to the general population.
I had played sports since the age of six and realised I could use my degree to improve the capacity and longevity of gen pop clients in their sports. I found more personal connection and motivation than in clinical practice.
My second motivating factor was that growing up, I was always quite underweight, which is why I stopped playing soccer at senior level. The changes I made to pull myself into a much healthier range by improving my body composition by 20+ kgs and improving my strength have helped me grow mentally as well as physically. I vicariously live through my clients' changes in their body composition and also the mental growth that comes with it.
I love seeing a client's attitude and behaviour shift more positively, followed by their goals being reached, whether that be body composition or weight on the bar. I vicariously live through the success of both my clients and Personal Trainers within my team. The most rewarding element in my job is seeing a change in mindset develop. For my PTs to see their understanding of the business side of their job grow and for my clients it is seeing their attitudes towards training, nutrition and lifestyle evolve.
I know other mentors within my industry who have spoken highly of the development opportunities with AIPT. My favourite part of the job is upskilling students and PTs; that was the first reason I took the role of PT Manager.
I am passionate about the industry I work in and want to play my part in improving the quality of trainers, in particular, within the team I manage.
Never stop learning. Surround yourself with other trainers who encourage a growth mindset. The industry is forever evolving; you need to move with it.
