My name is Sean O’Brien, and I am the Director and Head Trainer at Vigorous Fitness.
I have 30 years of experience in the fitness industry and over 10 years of that is at Vigorous Fitness. I have worked with the AIPT for 10 years. During that time, I have helped kick-start a number of successful careers in the fitness industry and have loved every minute, it’s so rewarding.
From the age of four, I was extremely active and had the encouragement of my parents, who directed me into highly explosive sports. Over the following years, I represented at the highest levels in several sports, including soccer, swimming, BMX riding, touch football, rugby (both union and league) and ice hockey. I enjoyed anything that challenged me and pushed me to the max. Now I am a Surf Lifesaver at my local beach and recently won Lifesaver of the Year and am a Bronze Medallion trainer involving myself in all team aspects at North Narrabeen Surf Club.
Because of my sporting achievements as a young man, fitness was a natural career choice. Coupled with my love and passion for people, it drove me to help others achieve their fitness goals.
My favourite part about my job is supporting and encouraging my clients, students and fellow PTs to achieve their goals. They’re capable of anything and being the voice that helps them believe that is tremendous.
Meeting a variety of people and being part of their journeys, experiences and their achievements with Vigorous Fitness. I love to watch my students progress and gain the valuable skills they require to teach confidently and professionally.
After many years in the fitness industry, the AIPT experiences and training methods are the best! I wanted to have the opportunity to motivate others to find their passion and join a community of industry leaders.
You can achieve your career in the fitness industry with passion and determination and the right mentor. Be yourself and always be passionate about your training! Be inspirational, motivating and use practical experience to relate to your clients. Don’t just rely on what you learn in books and online, take lessons from everyday life and the people around you.
