STUDENT KIT:

As part of your course you will receive a professional massage table, massage oil, a towel and a sports bag.

Remedial Massage Therapist

Work with your own patients to diagnose and perform massage treatments for a range of conditions concerns such as sciatica, carpal tunnel, stiff necks, headaches and sports injuries.

Analyse and respond to client health information
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to analyse client health information and then to plan appropriate health services within scope of own role. It requires an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and evaluate work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area, according to WHS legislative requirements.

Manage the prevention and control of infection
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop, implement and monitor infection prevention and control systems and procedures in work contexts where health and personal care services are provided.

Develop massage practice
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish the foundations of massage practice, evaluate what makes a sustainable practice and then to develop an approach to own practice.

Assess client massage needs
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to gather client information, make a physical assessment of the body and determine massage treatment options.

HLTMSG003

Perform remedial massage musculoskeletal assessments
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to assess the needs of clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction, musculoskeletal imbalance or restrictions in range of motion (ROM). It requires the ability to gather client information, conduct specific tests and bring information together to develop a remedial massage treatment plan. There is a strong focus on functional anatomy.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and provide massage treatments using a defined range of techniques and sequences.

Provide remedial massage treatments
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and provide remedial massage treatments based on the outcomes of an existing health assessment and treatment plan.

Adapt remedial massage practice to meet specific needs
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to adapt remedial massage assessment and treatment strategies to meet the needs of clients of different genders and at different stages of life. It also includes the requirement to be able to identify and respond to other specific needs with which the practitioner may be unfamiliar.

Monitor and evaluate remedial massage treatments
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to monitor and evaluate remedial massage treatments, both from an individual client and whole of practice perspective.

Provide first aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. *Learners are required to obtain the unit of competency HLTAID003 through another provider, as part of this qualification.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to create systems and process to organise information and prioritise tasks. It applies to individuals working in managerial positions who have excellent organisational skills. The work ethic of individuals in this role has a significant impact on the work culture and patterns of behaviour of others as managers at this level are role models in their work environment.

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to manage risks in a range of contexts across an organisation or for a specific business unit or area in any industry setting. It applies to individuals who are working in positions of authority and are approved to implement change across the organisation, business unit, program or project area. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage programs with a health and wellbeing focus. The unit addresses management of the range of programs that would typically be associated with health and wellbeing such as stress management, smoking cessation, exercise, and Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs).

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan for or review the requirements of effective administrative systems and procedures for implementing, monitoring and reviewing the system. It applies to individuals employed in a range of work environments in senior administrative roles.
