The Australian Institute of Personal Trainers Certificate III in Fitness offers you an interactive and hands on approach to learning, giving you the knowledge and skills you need to conduct fitness assessments and design and deliver fitness programs that help people achieve their fitness goals.

From the moment you graduate you will possess a comprehensive understanding of fitness and training fundamentals, including anatomy and physiology principles. You will also learn the latest in healthy eating trends and motivational strategies to assist new members in their fitness and health journey.

This course gives you the flexibility to complete the theory component in the comfort of your own home, while the practical component of your course will be taught by real fitness professionals, in real gyms, at a campus location near you.

In order to complete your practical component, you must hold a current “working with children check” (card) issued by the relevant government department in the state or territory in which you will undertake this course. Please note that the cost of this external training is not included in any of your course fees.

Course Outcomes

The Certificate III in Fitness will enable you to undertake work in a range of fitness environments as a qualified Exercise Instructor. It may allow you to gain employment in fitness areas as a:

Fitness Instructor

Assess clients and provide tailored fitness programs in-line with their personal goals.

Gym Instructor

Work as part of a team of fitness professionals in a gym providing advice on using gym equipment and writing exercise programs, while also contributing to daily operations.

Delivery Options and Length

AIPT Mentor - Certificate III in Fitness

30 hours of face-to-face practical completed with an AIPT Mentor, a qualified Personal Trainer, who will guide you through your course material and provide you with hands-on experience, with theory components completed online, in your own time.

Student Selected Mentor - Certificate III in Fitness

Choose your own mentor* to guide you through 30 hours of face-to-face practical. Theory components are completed online, in your own time.

*Your chosen Mentor must be approved by the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers.

Provide first aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. *Learners are required to obtain the unit of competency HLTAID003 through another provider, as part of this qualification.

Incorporate anatomy and physiology principles into fitness programming
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to incorporate an understanding of the human body structure and physiology into fitness instruction, programming and provision of fitness advice.

Provide health screening and fitness orientation
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify client fitness requirements, administer a pre-exercise health screening questionnaire and advise clients of appropriate fitness programs, services and facilities.

Conduct fitness appraisals
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan and conduct fitness appraisals, related to the health-related components of fitness.
