If you’re interested in planning, operating and management in the wider realm of sport and fitness, start your career with the SIS30115 Certificate III in Sports and Recreation.

Whether it’s maintaining sporting grounds, working in a customer service position or undertaking housekeeping duties, the SIS30115 Certificate III in Sports and Recreation will equip you to work competently across a range of activities and functions, in a range of operational and customer support positions.

Throughout this qualification, you will learn how to work effectively in sport, fitness and recreation environments, plan and conduct programs, organise schedules and use social media tools for collaboration and engagement for your sport or recreational facility. To be able to work hands-on in the sport and recreation industry, you will also learn how to maintain sport, fitness and recreation facilities and conduct non-instructional sport, fitness or recreational sessions.

This nationally accredited qualification is delivered online, via our learning management platform, my eCampus. Combined with support via our team of education professionals, you are equipped with the tools needed to start your career in sport and recreation.

Once attained, the SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation can be your stepping stone to further education, with qualifications like the Diploma of Sport and Recreation Management.

Entry Requirements

Education

You will need to have completed year 10, or equivalent. Equivalency can be demonstrated by one of the following:
  • A qualification at Certificate II level or higher OR
  • 2 years of industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication.

Minimum Age

You will need to be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18 your enrolment form will need to be signed by a parent or guardian.

Residency Status

You will need to be a permanent Australian resident or equivalent.

Computer Requirements

In order to complete the online part of the course you will need regular access to the following:
  • Computer: Laptop or desktop computer with working speakers or headphone points
  • Internet: High-speed internet such as Broadband or ADSL, T1/T2, fibre optic or (Dial-up access will be significantly slower and is not recommended)
  • Windows: Operating system – Windows XP or Vista 7 or above
  • Internet Browser: Internet Explorer 7 or higher or the latest version of Google Chrome
  • MAC: Operating system: OS X 10.4 or later. Internet Browser – latest version of Google Chrome
  • Software: Flash, Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word (or Open Office which is free to download

Working with Children Check

In order to complete your practical component, you must hold a current “working with children check” (card) issued by the relevant government department in the state or territory in which you will undertake this course.

Course Outcomes

Once you’ve completed your SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation, you’ll be able to apply a broad range of competencies in varied work contexts using your discretion, judgment and theoretical knowledge. You may also provide technical advice and support to a team. It will allow you to gain employment as:

Activity operation officer

Plan, review and implement sporting programs and hands-on activities specific to your sport or recreation environment, including the encouragement and assistance in group participation.

Sport and recreation attendant

Provide a variety of duties in a sport and recreation environment, including equipment hire, ensure the health and safety of guests and patrons, and undertaking administration duties. 

Recreation officer

Organise a range of recreational activities and programs for organisations including schools, fitness facilities, community recreation facilities and youth centres. 

Leisure service officer

Assist and supervise visitors in a leisure centre-style environment, and take on a variety of administration, maintenance and customer-service duties.

Course Structure and Units

Qualification status Check the currency of SIS30115.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification as specified in the packaging rules, but access to “Sport and Recreation activities” is required.

Provide first aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. *This course contains a core unit, HLTAID003 Provide first aid, which must be completed through an external RTO. Australian Institute of Personal Trainers has an agreement in place with Red Cross Australia (RTOID 3605) which allows students to receive training for this unit at a reduced price. Red Cross Australia is a third party training provider who conduct training and assessment services on behalf of Australian Institute of Personal Trainers. Please note that the cost of this external training is not included in any of your course fees. Upon completion, you will need to submit a copy of your first aid certificate in order for us to process a Credit Transfer against this unit on your student record. If you have chosen your own third party provider, you must submit a certified copy of your certificate. If you have undertaken training with Red Cross Australia, you must forward Australian Institute of Personal Trainers the email you receive which contains the electronic copy of your certificate.
